Kat's 1153 Handi-Heat 200 Watt Magnetic Heater Review

Kat's 1153 Handi-Heat 200 Watt Magnetic Heater
Average Reviews:

For my old tractor, with no room in the water jacket for a freeze plug heater, this is an excellent solution. The magnet is powerful enough that you feel secure leaving it attached for a while unattended, and it transfers the heat to the oil and metal more effectively than a dipstick heater, which has very little surface area. The nice thing about attaching this device to the bottom of the part you want heated is that any heat that escapes flows up and around the part it's stuck to.

Superwinch 1125220 Terra 25 2500lb Winch with Cable Review

Superwinch 1125220 Terra 25 2500lb Winch with Cable
Average Reviews:

Wish I could have used this winch. The workmanship of the Superwinch looked to be top notch. I can not go any farther than that in my review since I was unable to install the winch when mounted to the Superwinch mount plate. I gave this winch 3-stars since the electrical studs sits on the outer edge of the motor housing at 180-degree apart from each other. That would not be a problem for most installations but Superwinch's mount plate (#2202855) was designed so the winch would be mounted to the back of the mount plate and not the base of the mount plate. This caused the electrical studs to sit on a vertical plane instead of horizontal plane and caused the electrical studs to make contact with the crash bars, unless you used the left most mounting hole positions to mounted the winch.
Using any other mounting hole, other than the center mounting hole positions, created another problem. One of the bolts anchoring the winch to the mounting plate would hit the ATV frame preventing you from aligning and bolting the crash bar and mount plate to the ATV frame. I guess this would be a Catch-22 situation.
According to the Superwinch web site, this mount plate kit is suppose to work with this winch when mounting to a 2007 Grizzly 450 4x4.
Cheers to Amazon!! Amazon did provide me with a full refund for the winch. I did not try to return the mount plate since it show wear from where I was trying to persuade it to fit the ATV.

Generac 5943 GP7500E, 9,375 Watt Generator with Electric Start Review

Generac 5943 GP7500E, 9,375 Watt Generator with Electric Start
Average Reviews:

I purchased this on Dec 14, 2008.
I received it on Dec 19.
Shipping was good.
I assembled the unit on Dec 20.
Assembly went fine and is straight forward for anyone with a mild mechanical sense.
The Unit is suppose to have a dip stick to check the oil, but it is missing.
Also, when I put fuel in the unit and turn on the gas valve, the valve leaks - not alot but enough to be a fire hazzard - leaks onto the engine housing.
I called the number in the instructions for assemble and I was sent to voice mail and was asked to leave my number and a tech would call me.
So I left a message with a brief discription of my problem and my phone number. I am yet to hear from any one.
Also - A genral complain about Amazon.com !
I had placed the order for the generator, and a short time after I was informed of the possibility of missing parts and not being able to get customer service from Generac. I called Amazon.com to cancel the order, and even though it was only about 40 minutes since I place the order, then claim they could not cancel it.
AND - the price has been lowered by over $50 since I purchased it a week ago!

Mikuni Pulse Fuel Pump - --/-- Review

Mikuni Pulse Fuel Pump - --/--
Average Reviews:

But I didn't. I decided to give [...] a chance. This is an odd review in that I didn't buy it from Amazon and haven't used it. My intent is to use this forum as an additional means to get the word out on my level of dissatisfaction of doing business with a company other than Amazon. Here is the review I submitted to [...]:
"I bought a Mikuni fuel pump or so I thought. That's what they said on the web site and that's what it said on my shipping receipt. But what it said on the package was "MADE IN TAIWAN." Now when you look at the identical pump on Amazon.com it clearly shows the Mikuni name stamped on the product; as I think it is on all the parts they manufacture. No stamp of any kind on the pump I received. I thought, what the heck, I always order from Amazon, let's try someone else for a change. I made a mistake. Evidently BikeBandit lives up to their name by selling cheap knockoffs as the name product. I sent my complaint to the Customer Service department on the 19th and have only received the generated form response. I know it's the busy time of year and $24 is not worth the bother but their site does say that they usually respond within 1 business day. I will stick with a reputable company the next time I order parts."

Porter-Cable BSI550-W 5,500 Watt Generator with 10 HP Engine Review

Porter-Cable BSI550-W 5,500 Watt Generator with 10 HP Engine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As an engineer, I'm obsessed with numbers and choosing a generator presents the perfect opportunity to play with them. I won't bother you with a lot of technical details, but this is the generator I chose after 4 months of deep, deep researching.
First criteria: my needs. I wanted to power a 3 bedroom home with a finished basement through the harsh winters in Maine. Here are the devices I setup as an absolute necessity to power up during an emergency:
1) Water well pump, 2) Furnace blower, 3) Basement Sump Pump, and 4) Refrigerator. Here are the "good-to-haves": 5) lights in the kitchen and main living room, 6) pellet stove, 7) oven range. And, finally, just the "nice-to-haves": 8) TV, 9) microwave oven, 10) computer. And here's what gets excluded: all the 2nd floor in the house, garage door opener, bedroom lights, everything else not listed above.
By adding the must-haves and nice-to-haves, a 5500 W generator takes care of business. One of my concerns: since I have a lot of electric motors to start (well & sump pumps, refrigerator, furnace blower) this requires a good surge capacity from the generator. In case you don't know, a motor takes a lot of electricity to start up, between 3 to 5 times (!) over their normal running wattage. Here's the caveat: not all motors should start at the same time, so then determining what your surge wattage is becomes an "art". Consumer Reports simply tells you to ignore the surge wattage, since all the generators they tested started their appliances with no problem. Well, the thing is, they don't mention what appliances they tested and how they started them (manual selective start or just regular use?). So, their point is taken, but surge wattage can't be simply ignored (it shouldn't be the only criteria to buy a bigger generator, though).
Well, this generator, with a 9000 W surge, is the biggest I've seen in all 5500 models -- it beats them all. So, this model is perfect for me, as it meets the criteria I've selected above. It even powers my computer and TV (with surge protector) if the oven range is turned off.
This is very important: if you turn your generator on, you're in "emergency mode". This means, you lose some comfort, some conveniences. You just try to keep the inconveniences at a minimum. Well, if you don't agree with my assessment above, you're looking for the wrong type of generator. If you want to power your entire house and live as if power wasn't lost, you need a stand-by generator, not a portable one. Of course, they cost a lot more money (good and powerful ones start at over 10,000 bucks). That's a lot of money to pay not to be inconvenienced. Now, since you're looking for portable ones (I assume so since you read this review so far), you'll have to give up something. Basically, you can't throw a pot roast party for 20 guests if you lose power; like I've said, you're in emergency mode. Cooking a gourmet meal shouldn't be a priority, order out, get pizzas. You get my point. So, decide what you want to power in an emergency situation.
Second criteria: fuel consumption. I was just about to purchase a 7500 W model with 13000 W surge, for about $1,400 bucks! Have you seen the fuel consumption for these generators? Only 8 hours, tops, at half load. This ones rates at 13.5 hours. Well, with gasoline prices hovering at around 2 bucks a gallon, do the math if you run a larger generator for 2 weeks (a possibility over hurricanes and severe winter storms): it may cost you over $500 dollars in gas! Of course, with this generator the cost drops significantly and you don't have to wake up in the middle of the night to refuel it. This is very important to me, especially during cold winter nights.
Third criteria: quality of parts and components. I wanted a good engine and a good quality brand name generator. This one meets my criteria. It's not a Honda, but they're overpriced anyway and most home-owners and occasional users won't benefit as much from them. Construction workers, electricians and contractors may benefit some from their cleaner electrical output and "quietness", but no generator is really quiet. I ran a Honda once at my house and, sincerely, they're loud too. You just have to work around their noise, it's one of the inconveniences of being in emergency mode. Compare the noise of a generator to 5 kids screaming at the top of their lungs. With a Honda, you have 4 kids screaming at the top of their lungs. My point: 4 or 5, it doesn't matter, they're still loud.
Finally, here's what I mean for "less is better". If all you want is to power your house during an emergency, there's a good chance you'll be wasting your money if you buy a 10,000 W generator or bigger. First, 10,000 Watts is a lot of juice to deliver and you'll need 50 Amp plugs, cables, and a big transfer switch box if you want to use all that juice. They're ALL more expensive when you talk 50 Amps. The regular 30 Amp already costs money, about $100 for cable (depends on the length you want), $300 bucks for the transfer switch with 8 to 10 breakers (a bit less with

I am a Power Quality Technician for the local power company and I have much experience with electric power. This is one fine generator. I was worried the voltage would be all over the place. I placed a 2400 watt load using a Mega Beast on this and it varied by 1 volt! Nominal 120 volts. I was very happy. This will work in an emergency to keep the heat on and the beer cold as long the total watts is not exceeded. Recommended!

I modified this starter to fit my John Deere 318 Onan engine. It worked really well, using the head assembly from the original starter and the case and guts from the new. The only old moving part reused was the front bushing in the front head assembly. It's working well and it saved me on the order of $400! I highly recommend this if you have an old 318 with an Onan engine!!

Motorcraft FG986B Fuel Filter Review

Motorcraft FG986B Fuel Filter
Average Reviews:

It fit my 2002 Ford Crown Vic Police Interceptor P71.
Do this, it actually helped my car run smoother. You should have seen the jet black junk that came out of the "in" end of the filter when I dumped it out! How the filter was working, I don't know!
I heard these filters are supposed to come with new hose clips, but neither of mine did on two separate orders.
If you haven't done this before it can get messy with a pressurized fuel system (taking the gas cap off did little to relieve the pressure). Get a pan, rags, fire extinguisher, eye protection, and a hose to wash yourself off! It seems like the gas squirts out all over, and it does, but if you're quick enough, and wrap the hose in rags, you will have half a chance. NO OPEN FLAMES, SPARKS, HOT MUFFLERS, ETCETERA! DANGER!!! GAS, EXPLOSION, DEATH!
There are clips on either end of the filter that LOOK like they come off, however, you can buy a little plastic set of "clip release" tools (Lisle 39400 Angled Disconnect Tool Set) that fit all of the clips on the car. You slide them into the hose and it spreads the clips for easy removal, and I reused mine again.

Generac 5622 GP5000 6,250 Watt 389cc OHV Portable Gas Powered Generator Review

I bought a different brand but similar sized generator at a local store. I bought that generator as a closeout model thinking I found a great bargin.
The problem with this overseas-made generator was that fuel poured out where the carburator mated to the engine. I suspect it lacked a gasket, but it went back to the store pronto as I wasn't going to deal with it.
The Generac GP5000 is solidly built and well made. It just has a solid build feel to it without being unnecessarily heavy or bulky. The engine started up right away and ran fine. It was a shade louder than I anticipated but certainly nothing unusual or obnoxious. I like the fact that Generac designs their alternators and engines specifically to work together and they are not two independent units designed by different manufacturers and simply slapped together.
If you are running electronic equipment off this generator, or most any other generator, you will risk damage to that equipment as this generator, like others, does not produce a clean enough energy wave. So you may wish to consider some type of voltage regulation if you plan on running sensitive equipment for extended periods. Generac makes pure sine wave portable generators called their "XP Series" for running sensitive electronics, but be prepared to pay a premium for these models.
All-in-all, a good, solid, American-made generator that I hope to have around for a long time.

The generator arrived with the plastic air cleaner cover severely cracked. This seemed to be due to a somewhat flimsy/unprotected part, but primarily rough shipping. It is unlikely to get damaged during normal use. Anyway, a quick call to Amazon directed me to the manufacturer. The manufacturer Parts Dept offered to send me a replacement for free, and two weeks later it arrived. Fortunately, it was pretty easy to install, because the parts diagram in the owner manual is like a bad copy of a fax, and doesn't depict the air cleaner assembly anyway.
I hooked it up to an LPG tank and followed the instructions for a cold start in the manual, although the language was somewhat confusing (e.g. it took me a while to figure out that the "resistance air valve handle" referred to the choke.) After pulling the start handle multiple times, the best I could do was get it to run for maybe a second. Thinking I might have "flooded" the engine, I endeavored to remove the spark plug (the location of which is nowhere to be found in the user manual, although not hard to find if you are even remotely familiar with small engines,) where I discovered that the plastic plug cap was broken, although the electrical connection seemed to be fine. Using the included spark plug wrench was an adventure, because it requires considerable maneuvering to get it into the small space above the spark plug. The wrench handle was also too short to provide sufficient torque to unscrew the plug, so I resorted to using a long screwdriver through the wrench hole. That worked, but the thing still didn't start.
The next morning I tried again, but this time without going through the cold-start priming procedure, and it started immediately. It has been fine ever since. I tried out a few tools and lights as a load, and they all worked fine. The thing is quite noisy, but that was no surprise.
So, here's my summary:
The BAD:
1. Some parts flimsy
2. Owner's manual incomplete, confusing in places
3. Noisy
The GOOD:
1. Friendly, no-hassle customer service
2. It works, once you figure it out
3. Owner's manual and customer service info available online
4. One heck of a bargain- all it takes is avoiding having the freezer thaw out during one power outage to make it worthwhile
5. Doesn't stink like gas or diesel-powered generators
6. Basic tools included
The NEUTRAL:
1. It really needs wheels if you want to move it easily. I bought a cheap furniture dolly to wheel it around.
2. It would be nice if they had a way of securing an LPG tank to the unit away from the engine heat (on the generator side, maybe)
3. Requires small funnel with flexible and/or long spout to fill oil.

Slick 50 41306032 Adv Formula 32 Fl Oz Bottle Review

Why is Slick 50 NOT Slick 50 anymore???
Before 1984, Slick 50 was a one-time metal-infused treatment which coated your engine parts with an anti-wear lubricant film. The magic ingredient in Slick 50 NOW is Polytetrafluoroethylene. Don't try to pronounce it: call it PTFE. But don't call it Teflon, which is what it is, because that is a registered trademark. Dupont, who invented Teflon, claims that "Teflon is not useful as an ingredient in oil additives or oils used for internal combustion engines." But what do they know?
PTFE is a solid which is added to engine oil and coats the moving parts of the engine.
However, such solids seem even more inclined to coat non-moving parts, like oil passages and filters. After all, if it can build up under the pressures and friction exerted on a cylinder wall, then it stands to reason it should build up even better in places with low pressures and virtually no friction.
This conclusion seems to be borne out by tests on oil additives containing PTFE conducted by the NASA Lewis Research Center, which said in their report, "In the types of bearing surface contact we have looked at, we have seen no benefit. In some cases we have seen detrimental effect. The solids in the oil tend to accumulate at inlets and act as a dam, which simply blocks the oil from entering. Instead of helping, it is actually depriving parts of lubricant".
In defense of Slick 50, tests done on a Chevy 6 cylinder engine by the University of Utah Engineering Experiment Station found that after treatment with the PTFE additive the test engine's friction was reduced by 13.1 percent, the output horsepower increased from 5.3 percent to 8.1 percent, and fuel economy improved as well. Unfortunately, the same tests concluded that "There was a pressure drop across the oil filter resulting from possible clogging of small passageways." Oil analysis showed that iron contamination doubled after the treatment, indicating that engine wear increased.
The bottom line is that outside of the testimonials of happy and satisfied customers and the guarantees of company executives about the wonderful effects that studies have shown will follow the use of their products, there isn't much support for using oil additives. Of course, there are those millions of customers who buy the stuff: aren't they proof that these things really work? Not really. They're proof that this stuff really sells!
It's your money, but I think you'd be better off if you just changed your oil and oil filter regularly. And don't forget to change the fuel and air filters at the recommended intervals. I can't say for sure that these new products do no good, but what good they might do is probably not necessary or of much value for the average vehicle owner who takes proper care of the vehicle.

ETQ TG72K12 8,250 Watt 13 HP 420cc 4-Cycle OHV Gas Powered Portable Generator with Electric Start Review

ETQ TG72K12 8,250 Watt 13 HP 420cc 4-Cycle OHV Gas Powered Portable Generator with Electric Start

I had not previously heard of this brand, but Amazon's great price made it hard to pass up. I purchased this generator for home emergency purposes. I Ordered it on Sunday night and received it on the following Thursday. There was no visual damage to the box that would indicate rough handling by the shipper. However, upon removing the generator from the box there was minor damage to a couple of items (nothing that would prevent operation). I called the manufacturer and the representative politely agreed to replace the items.
The generator does not come with a battery for the electric starter. The manufacturer's representative stated that it required an Everstart ES12N94B1 battery, which I found at Wal-mart. After adding oil and a little gas the generator started right up with only three easy pulls (I had not installed the battery at that point). The generator started so easy, in fact, that I am considering taking the battery back and not using the electric starter. This generator appears to be of good quality and at this point I am completely satisfied with the product.
