K&N HP-1007 Oil Filter Review

KandN HP-1007 Oil Filter

These are high quality filters and the 1" nut has revolutionized the removal and installation. We all already know this.
The best part about buying these on Amazon is that you will save around 45% compared to the local auto shops if you catch them on the sales Amazon offers about once every two weeks with a promotion automatically applied (It's a $5 off promotion if you buy 3 or more that always seems to be there for these, you can see the details for this in the description). I just purchased 3 of them through Amazon for less than $25, where they would have cost me $42 plus tax at the store.
$9.86 a piece while on sale, free shipping, no tax, and an extra $5 off at check out...Can't beat it!

Mobil 1 M1C-253 Extended Performance Oil Filter, Pack of 2 Review

Mobil 1 M1C-253 Extended Performance Oil Filter, Pack of 2
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Mobil 1 M1C-253 oil filters for the ML550 do not hold up. The filters compress and wrinkle at the center half way down the side of the pleated material. The filters are the same height as OEM and other filter manufacturers, but the difference is with OEM and others the filters have greater structural wrapping, glue and thickness. I do not recommend the Mobil 1 M1C-253 for use with the ML550. Buy the K&N 7004 instead. Same type/style as the OEM made in Germany and appearance/performance the same as OEM.

I Used this product for the DIFF on my toyota supra.
It is VERY THICK... almost like ... jelly but coats very well.
I track and drift my vehicle regularly and this product works very well
I used the medium weight shock proof last time and after about 25 hours of drift and track usage, there was minimal shavings in the diff when it was drained.
I would highly recommend this product.

Red Line 50304 Manual Transmission (MT) 90W Gear Oil - 1 Quart Review

Red Line 50304 Manual Transmission (MT) 90W Gear Oil - 1 Quart
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is one awesome GL-4 fluid. It does everything it is supposed to and more, just as Redline promised. It smoothed out my transmission that I thought was potentially damaged. I was skeptical at first but no more. It was also cheaper than very expensive (and wrong, for my car) fluids at all the local stores that they tried to sell me.
Some background info is in order, if you are interested.
Many think all gear lube is the same, as long as you pick the right weight. Even many mechanics pay no attention to anything other than weight. Well, wrong, although it used to be true. Unlike motor oil, gear lube is indeed made different for different applications, even for the same weights, as newer cars requirements are so different from older cars. Mistake one: I had a pro shop change the gear lube in a manual tranny pushing close to 200k.I figured it was time :) If you want it done right, do it yourself, but I was lazy that day. I specifically requested them to make sure the right synthetic fluid went in. They of course put in the right weight: high priced, major brand, synthetic 75w90, but they never bothered to check anything else, since they just have the autostore cross-reference and deliver the fluid. The stores are more clueless than anything else. The chain stores do not even stock GL-4 fluid anymore. There was one high priced brand that claimed to be both GL-4 and GL-5. Well, anything that claims to be one size fits all usually does not fit anything properly so I would stay away from that. Mistake two: Not checking if all lube was backward compatible. If you want to be sure, check everything yourself. After all, I had professionals do it for me, right? They don't care because it is not their car. Well, GL-5 is not backward compatible and can actually damage some tender parts in transmissions designed for GL-4 due to some harsh additives.
So, after the shop put in GL-5, after a week or two, tranny started lurching in 5th gear. Darn. Did some research, but could not be sure if it was the fluid or just coincidence. After all, it is a lot of miles on the tranny. But, all indications were GL-5 was bad for my GL-4 designed transmission.
So, all my hopes rested on this Redline fluid. It did not let me down!
Got some Redline MT-90 GL-4 75w90 fluid and changed it myself. Amazon has the best price. No one locally even stocked pure GL-4. At first, the lurching was still there. Well, it was worth a try, I thought. But then, it got smoother, or so it seemed. Wishful thinking, I thought. Then, it was definitely smoother, no mistake. Could it be? Now, about two weeks after, for the very first day, the lurching in 5th gear is completely gone, and the tranny is as smooth as it was before. Even smoother. I would occasionally grind when shifting quickly, but now I can shift as fast I am capable of and I have yet to make it grind.
So, expensive lessons learned.
One, do it yourself, if you can. Check what someone else puts in your car before you let them put it there. Definition of a "professional" is that they are paid to do it, not necessarily that they do it well. Just because they get paid to do it, does not mean they know what they are doing, or know better than you.
Two, even if you do not do it yourself, at least make sure your mechanic knows what to put in. They will not take time to research and could not care less if you do not tell them beforehand.
Three, do not trust clueless autostores to cross-reference fluids. They will get it wrong most of the time. Go to factory service manuals or other reliable sources for that information.
Four, if your transmission calls for GL-4, do not chance it with GL-5! Brass synchronizers cannot take it, as GL-5 additives can eat them. You may need a new tranny or major repairs before you know it.

Royal Purple 01315 Max-Cycle 10W40 Engine Oil - 1 Quart Review

Royal Purple 01315 Max-Cycle 10W40 Engine Oil - 1 Quart
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you don't know anything about oil then its very easy to associate expensive oil with being much better.
When i first got my gsxr 600 2006, i tried a few of the expensive oils since money wasn't really an issue with my new toy.
Theres no performance increase with royal purple motorcycle oil. you wont get more miles to the gallon. it
wont make your engine quieter.
I now use cheaper regular full synthetic motorcycle oil that costs half the price and i can't tell
the difference between that and when i had royal purple in there.
Royal purple is too expensive and not worth it. Its more expensive because they spend more
on advertising and color it purple i guess.
If you really want to spend more and the best for your engine then just change the engine oil more often.

Lucas is first known for their oil additive products, but they also make this full synthetic.
After I broke in my new car I switched to this stuff at 30,000, and have been running it til now at 130,000.
Performance hasn't seemed to change, but soon I'll have a dyno to prove that.
This package is a great value as Lucas isn't carried in my local market anymore...

Mobil 1 44999 5w40 Turbo Diesel Truck - 1 gallon, Pack of 2 Review

Mobil 1 44999 5w40 Turbo Diesel Truck - 1 gallon, Pack of 2
Average Reviews:

Mobil 1 is one of those cases where you get what you pay for:
Sure, it's considerably more expensive per quart than regular oil. But you can run it many more months / hours than the ''old fashioned'' brands. And for those of us in colder climates, the difference in starting performance when it's really cold is amazing: Mobil 1 fully synthetic oil (all varieties) thickens a LOT less as the temperature drops. I can still start my vehicle even when it is well below zero degrees F. without plugging in the soft-plug heater; and even my big diesel tractor will start without heating well below freezing (for those of you from southern states: You have NO IDEA how cold 35-40 degrees BELOW zero F. feels; and how regular oil pretty much turns to a near-solid when it gets that cold).

Valvoline VV850 Racing 10W30 NOT STREET LEGAL Motor Oil, Pack of Six 1 Quart Bottles Review

Valvoline VV850 Racing 10W30 NOT STREET LEGAL Motor Oil, Pack of Six 1 Quart Bottles
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is an excellent high performance motor oil for vintage engines due to a high zinc content. Modern engine oils no longer contain zinc due to zinc's degradation of catalytic converters. This isn't a problem for newer vehicles since modern engines use overhead cams or roller lifters with low friction. Vintage cars use flat tappet camshafts which will be damaged if motor oils without zinc are used. If you're running a flat tappet cam engine, you need to run an oil with high zinc or use a zinc additive such as ZDDP. This oil is "Not Street Legal" because it will damage your catatytic converter and render your vehicle non-compliant smog wise if used in a newer vehicle.

ENEOS 5w-40 CS Fully Synthetic Motor Oil - 1 Quart, Pack of 6 Review

ENEOS 5w-40 CS Fully Synthetic Motor Oil - 1 Quart, Pack of 6
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I pulled the trigger on purchasing this oil because I have heard such great things about it. I was initially going to purchase some Amsoil, but I stopped myself because of the fact that you need to purchase a membership and then pay shipping and tax. Purchasing from amazon gives you tax free shopping and free shipping.
I really researched this oil thoroughly, as I really like to know if it's worth shelling out the extra money. I came up with a lot of people being unfamiliar with the oil and some people that raved about it. The oil is produced by Japan's largest oil company "Nippon Oil". Even though there isn't a lot of information about this oil, I remain at peace of mind because it's a Japanese company. The Japanese for the most part produce some of the best products from electronics to cars. I don't think this oil would be a bad product because of all of the huge advertisements and the fact that it's not exactly a trial and error product because Nippon is such a big company. Many of the Japanese cars come with Nippon Oil from factory. My Impressions:I swapped out my old oil on my 2009 Subaru Impreza 2.5i to this oil. I was formally running Pennzoil Platinum, which is a great oil, but I really wanted a top notch group "FUllY Synthetic" oil. When I first opened a quart I smelled the fresh oil because many people have said that the oil smells like alcohol because it's fully synthetic. I can confirm that this oil does smell like hard liquor. The oil is also very different in color when comparing to other oils. It's almost completely clear with a light yellow hue. It's almost similar in color to corn syrup.
After swapping my oil out I took my car for a ride and was pleased with the smoothness and overall throttle response.
I'm also impressed with the gas mileage. I tried a 40w oil once before and it tanked my mileage pretty badly. My manual states that the preferred oil is 5w30. However, I wanted to try this in the 40w form.
