(More customer reviews)I've used Castrol Edge since it first came out; please be advised that this oil isn't for everyone. This is better for higher output engines. I have a 350 in my truck and not only does it make the engine considerably quieter, it starts easier (it was -10 here yesterday and I had no problems; ended up jump starting a few cars even) and gives a noticeable increase in power and fuel economy. (1 mpg-not bad when you started with 13) Personally, while this oil can go 15,000 miles, I change it every 7,500.
If you drive something that's less powerful, I would recommend Mobil 1 advanced fuel economy type oil, castrol Syntec, or Penzoil Platinum. This oil was more designed to compete against Royal Purple, which is typically used more on 1/4 mile. It's not that this oil won't work, it's just overkill if you don't race or tow. If yours has a lot of miles, get a high mileage oil
However, if you're worried about (newer) volkswagen engines, GET CASTROL SYNTEC. That's what they ship with from the factory. EDGE exceeds the standards, but those engines were designed for syntec oil. Also, if you have a TDI, don't get oil that isn't designed for one, which castrol edge is not. For that I'd recommend either Rotella-T or Mobil 1 15w-40 Diesel oil.
PS. it's 27 dollars for a 5-quart bottle at walmart (Here in CO at least), so buy it there if you want it. And if you're willing to spend the money, a K&N performance gold oil filter is the way to go, but remember to change it every three months, even though this oil lasts a year/15,000 miles.
